Julia Loman is an artist and illustrator working in a variety of media exploring daily life and ecology.

Hi, I'm Julia! I am an artist and illustrator currently living in Charlottesville, Virginia.

I make art as a process of searching. I rarely know what I am searching for when I begin, and sometimes the process of making only gets me a little closer to finding out. Whether or not my questions- about myself, the world, life- are answered when I create is beside the point. The act of making art allows me to feel real, to open up some part of myself that cannot be discovered through words or thoughts or feelings. I respond to the natural world because trees and rivers and stones and grasses seem to have discovered how to speak without words, and I feel this process of discovery leads me to the most interesting places when their voices play a role.
